National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
29 Mar
In America Breast Cancer Awareness Month is known as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. National Breast Cancer AwarenessMonth takes place every October. That is when you see the most people wearing pink ribbons on their clothes. Pink ribbons are the international symbol for breast cancer awareness. The pink cancer ribbon is worn by family members and supporters of breast cancer survivors and to raise breast cancer awareness.
Pink ribbons became the official symbol of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in 1992, the year after the pink ribbons were handed out in New York City race for the cure by the Susan G. Komen Foundation, an organization committed to raising breast cancer awareness and fighting for a cure.
Though there are breast cancer awareness events throughout the year, many of the breast cancer awareness events are concentrated in October during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This is also when the pink cancer ribbon makes the most appearances, whether in the form of small pink cancer ribbon patches, pink cancer ribbon keychains, or other pink cancer ribbon products. In 2006 they even minted 30 million quarters with pink ribbons, a symbol of hope and breast cancer awareness, for normal circulation.
